We can never say it often enough, a picture is worth a thousand words, but did you know that the wrong image can cost you up to $1000 in fine? In fact, did you know that you must pay close attention to the images that you use online? If you use a photo that does not belong to you or have the rights to use, you may be subject to fines!

I often hear "Well I found the image on Google, I’m pretty sure I can use it, right?" This is a big mistake. An image is not free of rights because it is found on Google Image, quite the opposite! The image was posted by someone else and that person has the rights to use it, whether because it’s their own picture or because they bought the rights. Photos and images are all subject to the rules relating to intellectual property and you don’t have any rights on an image taken online.

You can’t use a photo, image or illustration if you aren’t the author and don’t hold the rights. You can find images online that are free for personal use, but you must make sure that you’ve read the license and that this license permits you to use the image! Often Royalty Free Stock Photos sites have a set of license you must follow depending on your use of the image. For example, sometimes they require you to put a caption under the photo mentioning the photographer or agency that took the picture. If you find a picture with a search engine and that it’s the perfect picture you were looking for, take the time to check if it is free to use or contact the webmaster for references on the author. It’s a necessity and can save you hundreds of dollars. If you use an image that is not yours or legal, you could be fined and in general, the fines are pretty high! If you are a small business or an autoentrepreneur, every penny counts and you probably don’t like surprises of this kind! Taking the time to validate the legality of a pic...Read post

With the recent release of the newsletter subscription module in partnership with MailJet , we thought an update on email campaigns would be a good idea. Indeed, it’s easy to fall in for the rumors about newsletters : some say that they don’t work, that people do not read the messages, that they’re too overwhelmed with spam for companies to have successful campaigns ... This is wrong, of course ! You just need to know how to build your campaigns so that they are successful! 41% of new subscribers open or click email campaigns, it’s up to your to keep them coming for more!

Here are some key points to keep in mind when you build your campaigns:

Pay attention to your subject line!

The title or subject of the email will be the first thing seen by the client or potential client. Pay a lot of attention to them! This is an email after all and often, people are overwhelmed with irrelevant messages so be careful to avoid titles like "40% off! ". This type of title can easily be confused with spam email and offers no indication of what your business is. Don’t forget to include a call-to-action, an invitation or your company name in the title. When people responded to the question "Why do you open a marketing email ", 64% said they have opened the email because it came from a company they like or trust and 47 % opened the email because of its title, while only 26% have read the content due to a tempting offer. This 47% is far from negligible. Write a relevant, complete and truthful title, do not aim sensationalism. Be careful to keep your title below 30 characters! 22% of people spend less than 10 minutes per week reviewing their marketing emails, make sure yours does not go unnoticed.

Does your company have a blog?

17/04/2013 11:57:21
Generation Inc. published an article written by their author Benoit Descary which reminds us about the importance of having a blog. We publish it here to help you grasp the information :

There is no doubt that your business could benefit from a well-planned social media presence. While Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin are popular platforms, the blog is the cornerstone of an online involvement, as it is in this space that you can develop your branding, talk about your products and services and demonstrate your expertise. In short, the blog allows you to tell your own story, at your own pace, in your own space.

According to a Hubspot study , 81% of companies that have a blog consider this space is critical, important and useful to their business. In a previous post we already outlined the main reasons why your small business should have a blog. But here, we’ll push the analysis a bit further. [...]

One strategy that I recommend is to tie an online presence on social media to a blog. Let me explain: the blog should be at the heart of your social strategy. It’s your home, your property. The content you create there may be distributed on different social networks you use.

Content creation on your blog will make your website shine and potentially improve your influence on the web. Don’t reinvent the wheel, though. Use the content you create on social media, but be careful to use it to bring these potential customers to your website. It’s there that you can take any action to convert visitors into customers.

SOME IDEAS TO DEVELOP YOUR BLOG:
• Give a human feel to your bl...Read post

A glance at our customers takes a deeper look at the beautiful site Creation Noisetier . This e-shop sells multiple natural medicinal items made from hazel. The design of the site is very well done, with beautiful photos and a template that fits well with both the sector of activity and the colors of the business. The default logo location on the left was used to insert a vivid image, while the default banner location was reserved for the insertion of the business’ logo. The webmaster uses well the WebSelf functions to vary the site’s appearance and goes a step further by interchanging the logo and banner’s default locations. By doing so, you can have more flexibility in the size of your logo. If you want your activity’s logo to be bigger on your site, this is a very good way to do this!

As for the site itself and its contents, again, it’s very well done! Images of buttons have been added to the site, such as the “acheter” (buy) button in the right section of the homepage and also all throughout the site. These buttons put the shop forward on the website, without taking up too much space or grabbing too much attention, like an animated banner would do. They also fully respect the design of the site and it’s style and color. If you wish to do so too, simply create an image and use the image module to insert it into your website. You can then add a click on the image and redirect to the shop of your site or any other page of your choice.

The homepage contains text modules that each redirect to other sections of the site, which is a great advantage in terms of user-friendly navigation and are straight to the point. This is an excellent Call-to-Action example...Read post
